Reviving the Fine Art of Correspondence

There is nothing as exciting as receiving a hand written letter in the mail. These days mailboxes are usually stuffed to overflowing with junk mail and bills. E-mail and inexpensive long distance phone rates have nearly eliminated the fine art of letter writing. You'll learn how to revive this dying skill through unique and original techniques. Well cover the making of polymer clay stationary (Yes, clay paper!), postcards, and mailers. You'll learn how to transform this user friendly medium into durable surfaces that make unforgettable correspondences. Yes, these are mailable! Recipients of your artistry are sure to treasure these unique communiqués as more than just letters, but as gifts destined to become heirloom memorabilia. This workshop will cover concepts including translucent marbling, layered collage, luminescent backgrounds, surface manipulations, gradients, embossing and more. Two or more finished pieces will be taken from this class.

Lisa will provide all of the polymer clay, clay blades, work surfaces, millefiori canes, texture sheets, mailing tubes, paints, waxed tissue, release agent, assorted rubber stamps and handouts

Supply List:

Pasta machine-if you already have one!- with a large “C” clamp (there will be a pasta machine available for sharing in the workshop.)

glue stick

permanent ink pads (black and colors of your choice)

baby wipes

X-acto type craft knife

waxed paper

baby wipes.

Optional: Detailed rubber stamps (Lisa will provide an assortment of stamps to work with during the class).
