Pushing the Envelope An Interactive Sheer Heaven Quilt (on Canvas )

Price: $120

Jessica Wesolek

No sewing!

In this workshop, we will create a “quilt” on canvas that will look fabulous on your wall. The quilt squares will be envelopes made of Sheer Heaven - in many varied sizes and shapes - and dyed, painted, stenciled, printed, stamped and embellished in all kinds of special ways. Sheer Heaven, in case you haven't heard of it, is a wonderful cross between paper and vellum that is nothing short of miraculous.   Not only will we "push the envelope" of paper art techniques, we will create an art piece that you can change as times goes on - by switching the contents of the envelopes.   Each student will receive a Red Letter Typesetting Alphabet and Letter Setter as a part of their class fee! (A $40 value) and enough Sheer Heaven to complete the project ($20 value), so a large part of your class fee is returned in product on the spot!   All supplies will be furnished including a gallery wrap canvas.

Please Bring these Tools (and wear old clothes):
Brushes: A couple of pointed round watercolor brushes and a small (1/4") flat brush you can use with glue
Tapes: Regular removable Scotch Tape, Regular Double sided tape, and Scotch Removable Poster Tape. If you have a roll of Vellum tape, please bring it along as well.
Scissors: Good Rubber Cutting Scissors and Good Paper Cutting scissors
Ink Pads: Permanent Waterproof Black, Versamark or other embossing pad, any Adirondack Dye Ink Pads or refills you may have (no need to go out and buy them if you don't have any - we will have some).
6" metal ruler Sharpened Pencil - 3H or 4H
Bone Folder (Scoring Tool too if you have one)
Heat Tool if you have one
Craft knife and small cutting mat
Water Soluble crayons or colored pencils if you have them
Decorating Chalks if you have them (those soft pastels in little squares)

A Collection: Give some thought to a meaningful theme for your quilt. We will be tucking things into the translucent envelopes and even some smaller envelopes inside envelopes - that will be the "padding" of your quilt and influence its look in subtle ways.   So, gather a collection of small things that support your theme, but make sure they are relatively flat: photos, bits of decorative papers, dried flowers, leaves, feathers, buttons, charms, fibers - you get the idea. These "contents" will not be permanent, so you will be able to completely change your quilt's theme at any future date - in any way that interests you.--
