Student Level: Advanced Beginner/Intermediate

Prerequisite: Must have prior soldering experience and be able to use a jeweler's saw.

Revisit the combination of turquoise and silver with this new twist on an old classic. We'll create a thick fine silver setting for a gorgeous freeform turquoise cabochon on textured sterling silver, then twist up some wire to frame it with visual texture. We'll transform plain sterling wire into textured links and practice pick soldering for cleaner solder joins, then add a simple hidden tube bail to let the stone stay front and center. This is a fun project for students with some prior soldering and sawing experience who are looking for a chance to stretch their wings a bit as we tackle pick soldering, bezel making, stone setting, chain making, simple sawing and hand finishing. Students without the requisite experience may not be able to finish their project in class. Kit/Materials Fee of $55, payable to the instructor in class, includes:

• Patterned sterling silver sheet
• Turquoise cabochon
• Fine silver bezel wire
• Sterling silver wire
• Solder
• Use of all consumables (butane, flux, etc) and tools necessary to complete the project

Student should bring:

• Bring a battery-powered task light
• A pen and notebook for note-taking
• Eye magnification if needed
• Everything else required to complete the project is provided - all tools, materials and equipment. Just come and have fun!!
