I have long been a fan of the work of the fabulous Alexander Calder (if you don't know his work, get your google on!) This beautiful strap setting was inspired by Calder's amazing jewelry pieces. My strap prongs are the perfect setting to show off a chunky crystal cabochon or a twinkling drusy. The wider bands of are reminiscent of vintage luggage straps and give this piece an edgy, almost-industrial feel...so chic! Bring your metal stamps and stamp your pendant, or I'll show you some other ways to texture your piece. But that's not all... In addition to the pendant, you'll learn how to make a gorgeous soldered chain. Each link is textured with a different pattern, giving this chain an interesting boho feel. I'll be bringing my dies for you to use in this process...you're going to love making this chain! You'll also learn how to make a matching, gloriously large, patterned hook. Students will be able to string their necklaces, as time allows. I'll be covering texturing, metal stamping, filing, forging, annealing, hardening, finishing and bead stringing. I'll be showing silver soldering (including pic soldering), pickle and patina, in this class. If you've never done silver soldering, this workshop is a great introduction to that skill. I'll have some stones, in class, for sale. Please bring a stone of your liking, large or small. Drusy or chunky crystal stones work best; see photos.
