Have you had the experience of having a fabulous piece you've made (polymer clay, metal clay, epoxy resin, glass...) or that perfect found object, or that exact quote from a book, that has sat on your bench for months (years??). You want to include it in a piece but can't figure out how to attach it in a way that features the item, keeps it intact and forwards the narrative idea of the piece.

OR, you work in non-metal media such as polymer clay, resin, plastics etc. and want to start including metal in your pieces without have to solder or invest in a lot of metal-working tools and equipment.

Here's your chance to learn just how to do all that and more! In this comprehensive workshop you will learn how to include virtually any object - made, found or bought - to your work in a way that highlights that object and enhances the visual idea of the piece. And all this is done with no soldering, very few (and very inexpensive) tools, and not much time invested.

You will also learn how to include stones - faceted and cabochons - to your work - again with no soldering.

Techniques will include, inside, outside, riveted and micro-fastener tabs; riveted stone setting for cabochons and faceted stones; fold-formed settings and more.

Students can bring any objects to class to set and can expect to leave with finished work or numerous examples or both.

Kit/Materials Fee (payable to instructor at class time):

  • $30 includes:
  • micro fastener kit with drill bits
