Each year Art Unraveled offers scholarships to artists who might not otherwise be able to attend. Funds are donated by attendees who bid on art items during the Saturday evening live auction. The art is createdduring the party by teachers and sometimes a team consisting of teachers and students
- the art is created in a very short period of time, so the winning bidders are often very generous given the fact that the art is not something that the artist(s) had a lot of time to think about or work on nor many resources either. They are presented with a pile of "stuff" and with minimal tools orsupplies, create a work of art. To hear the loud bidding and laughter, one would think that they were bidding on very fine art worth lots and lots of money! That's just how
our generous attendees are. They too believe in giving a helping hand to others - and so we have the Scholarship program and the Silent Auction which benefits Youth Development Institute - both which allow others to create art and smile even though their life circumstances may not be the very best.!

| ... its almost been a year since art unraveled. almost 6 years since my first class... and I am always amazed at which moments become a part of my art vernacular.... which methods have come to be a part of my life the most. To tell you a short story last year I took these amazing classes last year... just amazing with inspiring teachers... and yet the method that I am using almost every day in my art life is this small black and white class I took at night. I wasn't even going to take the class. It was small... but I thought ...oh this might be fun... I wish you all could take it because it was quiet and amazing. We cut out forms in black and pasted the black side to one side the white side to the other side of the paper. It was beautiful and amazing. I use that method of black and white everyday. I don't know what happened in that class but something clicked... and I am passionately in love with seeing things like this. I use the black and white method in drawing, I use it in painting.... I use it in ceramics... love. so omg I could not be more thankful for art unraveled. It is such a gift everyday. So I wanted to tell you all -- take classes. Take small night classes and just see what happens. Experience art. No more rules or expectations. just practice...and believe in your art journey. Art really has a life of its own. |
