In this workshop we will transform ordinary metal into a fabulous thick, chunky, beautifully embellished deck of cards! Each student will receive 10 flat pieces of metal, each 6 X 3 inches, to transform into a beautiful work of art. We will explore a variety of ways to use & distress metal, cloth, paper, found objects, and you will learn a plethora new ideas & techniques!

You will receive in depth instruction on how to work with metal including...
applying texture to metal
metal transfers
a variety of ways to forge, distress & mark metal
how to add ink & paint as a design element
how to use patina to change the look of the metal
alternative ways to attach objects your work without using glue
how to correctly use tools & products, including the doming block & a few new surprises
how to master object placement, composition & problem solving
how to add texture & depth to your work composition & design concepts
a variety of new surface design techniques
how to create a cohesive, themed project

You will leave with a unique, beautifully embellished art deck that can be bound by decorative wire or transformed into a book or sculpture if you wish.

Kit/Materials Fee (payable to instructor at class time):

• $25.00 payable to instructor at class time includes:
• 10 pieces of pre-cut metal
• wire
• images
• sandpaper
• a nice package of ephemera
• use of instructor's tools, stamps, paints, paper & consumables

Student should bring:

• Please read the supply list NOW and collect your supplies early. You may have to order some things online, so please allow plenty of time for this. I do not sell extra supplies in class. You may not be able to complete the project in class if you do not bring what is listed on the supply list. If you have trouble finding anything, or if you have any questions, please contact me at least two week prior to class at lklight@copper.net.
• White gesso, at least 6 oz. Utrecht Artists' Acrylic Gesso, White, medium bodied, available at Dick Blick. Any brand of gesso will work, but the thick Utrecht gesso is best for this project
• PVA glue, 4 oz. Available at Dick Blick
• Sophisticated Finishes/ Modern Options Patina, 4 oz. Blue or green, your choice. Be sure to buy the matching copper surfacer, patina will not work without it. This is usually available at your local craft store, or online here....http://www.modernoptions.com/
• Small images, a wide variety to choose from, 6x3 inches or smaller
• Small found objects, a good variety, used to embellish your deck
• Scissors & a few medium size paint brushes
• Brads, eyelets & wire a variety of sizes & colors
• 2 or 3 of your favorite Acrylic paint... These cards are small so you don't need a lot. If everyone brings a small amount of 2 or 3 colors & is willing to share, there should be plenty to go around. I will have some on hand to share.

Optional:

• A heat gun if you have one
• A Crop-a-dile or metal punch if you have one - I will bring several to share
• Gilders paste a wax-based medium used to alter the color of metal
• Alcohol ink, an alcohol based stain to alter the color of metal
• ADIRONDACK DYE RE-INKERS: I prefer the earth tones, ginger & pesto are my favorites! This is a wonderful Ranger product that has been discontinued. If you have some, please bring them. Or do a google search for Adirondack Dye Re-inkers, you can sometimes find these through Amazon, JoAnne's & small stamp stores. Pigment re-inkers & Alcohol inks are not the same & will not work.
