This workshop will teach how to create custom mosaic tiles for small scale applications like decorative veneers for containers, journals and more. You'll learn a simple method for laying out the project design and a unique one-step grouting method that is much easier and cleaner than traditional grouting methods. Students will work from a limited selection of the instructor's designs, but we'll discuss ideas for generating their own patterns. The mosaic will be created on a small palette - an empty mint tin. Further discussion of how to adapt the mosaic method to larger scale pieces including non-bakeable surfaces will be covered as well so you can apply your skills to large scale, home decor projects. Time permitting, we'll cover the use of simple gradient effects in custom tiles as well as basic millefiori caning for decorative accents around tins and similar objects that can be covered. We'll also discuss the creation of textured and dimensional tiles so students can take their skill set to the next level following class.
