Fear of the blank page is a common issue with journals. Don't you just love all those fantastic journals you see in books and magazines filled to the brim with incredible lines colors and lettering. Work with this accomplished mixed media artist and avid journal writer and artist and work through your fears and hesitations with journal prompts and techniques. We will fill two journals with color, pattern, texture, lines and words while working quickly, having fun and making wonderful discoveries. Work with painted layers with stencils, rubber stamps and household tools. Learn tips and tricks for using collaged, block and cursive lettering with paint and other mediums from this professional lettering artist.

Kit/Materials Fee (payable to instructor at class time):

• use of additional acrylic paints
• acrylic gels
• black gesso
• matte medium
• collage papers
• tissue paper
• rubber stamps
• stencils
• sandpaper
• graphite transfer paper

Student should bring:

• 2, 5" x 8" or 6" x 9" mostly empty journals
• 8 oz white gesso (can be shared with a friend)
• 2-3 colors of acrylic paint
• 1/2" or 3/4" flat (and 1 pointed No.1) paint brushes
• permanent waterproof ink pens like Pitt or Micron
• bag of makeup wedges
• palette paper or paper plates
• water container
• paper towels

Suggested:

• Bring two relatively empty journals (I'll bet you have at least a couple you've started but haven't filled?) sized about 5" x 8" or up to 6" x 8" size. Sturdy paper is better than text weight, but bring what you have, lined or unlined. You will come away from this class with tricks and secrets, brimming with flowing creativity (and an arsenal to combat any lack of thereof) and pages of painted journals filled color, line, texture and thoughts.

Optional:

• your own favorite art supplies and writing supplies (stamp pads, pan pastels, colored pencils, china markers, etc.) rubber stamp patterns, alphabet stamps and/or stencils, or other "tools" like sponges, plastic forks, knives, combs, etc.
