Open to total beginners, we'll explore the elegant art of pointed pen calligraphy - the style used by many of today's wedding calligraphers but also being discovered by mixed media artists. Learn tricks of the trade from this professional calligrapher whether you work with the pointed dip pen that comes with your kit or bring your own fountain pen or brush pen or other favorite ballpoint. We'll practice lower case and upper case alphabet and variations on letters. Exercises in strengthening your cursive writing as well as individualized attention to your strengths and weaknesses in lettering. Advice on applying calligraphy to your art as well! At the end of class create a couple greeting cards and learn the etiquette of addressing envelopes.

• Calligraphy Kit (valued at $35) with 48 page instruction guide with sample alphabets
• 1 pointed pen nib
• 1 pen holder
• small supply of sumi ink
• all practice papers
• greeting cards and envelopes

Student should bring:

• pencil
• ruler
• black sharpie or other black bold pen

Optional:

• other favorite writing implements, brush pens, Pitt pens, metallic or other color inks.
