The medium of encaustic allows me to best express what is in my head and heart. I also believe that an artist should use any materials at her disposal; materials which best convey the message at hand. Therefore I frequently include wax-friendly items like transferred photographs, paper, other fibers, and organic materials, into the work. Prior to beginning working with encaustic nine years ago, I had explored my art in various other media since 1975, in photography, metalworking, mosaic, collage, and mixed media. I worked at Peters Valley, a residential crafts community, in capacities including gallery assistant, assistant to the director, and programs chair. From 1988-1997 I owned a fine crafts gallery in Middleburg, Virginia.
I exhibit and sell my work via the website www.sherrieposternak.com and gallery exhibitions in the US and Mexico. I also demonstrate and teach encaustic in my home studio and outside venues. I live in Tucson, Arizona and Guanajuato, Mexico.
