In this workshop you will turn an old book into richly colored deep portraits and artworks - create depth by overlaying with varnish, glues & various waxes, using hand made rabbit skin glue and gesso to make a powerful book of your own. You'll learn Annie's various techniques of transparent layering and decoration to create unusual faces and paintings in books. You'll also view a short slide show of her books since 1981; she demonstrates her process and shares her books giving away secrets to her own patinas. Explore her painting methods & practices to create jewel-like effects & an action-like "painterly touch". Annie's method is an infectious style of book art made in multiples, ripping up art history books and painting in an assembly line fashion creating deeply intuitive paintings. Learn how to utilize collage- deconstruct icons and stories into mysterious meaning and themes in painted books full of faces meticulously designed into powerful diaphanous layered complex heads which look carved with embedded features and surfaces which are built into intense detailed mosaic-like collages. You will experiment using unconventional art methods. Annie's style of teaching helps people find their own personal symbolism, ritual beauty, decay, love, sacrifice, power, object & place and put together imaginative pictures, poems, or create a surrealistic journal, a rare palimpsest-like ancient visionary painted book object of your own.
