In this 6 hour class taught over two evenings, students will learn how to make their own individual tiles out of polymer clay which will then be used to create mosaic Icons. Students will be taught with demos and a hands-on approach the various steps from rolling out the clay to glazing the final product. Upon completion of creating their own unique hand-painted and stamped tiles, students will then combine their tiles with a variety of embellishments and collected objects to create their own personal Icons. I will also provide a variety of handmade tiles that students can use in addition to their own tiles. The student's final piece will be a contemporary but Byzantine-looking Icon, made on a piece of masonite which can be either hung on the wall or displayed on a plate stand or easel.
$10.00 kit fee is payable to instructor at class time which will help cover the cost of all of the tiles provided and many of the supplies including acrylic paint, spray paint, powders, and varathane.
