Metal Meets Book

Metal book In this class we will design and make books covered both real and faux metals. Using only simple tools discover new ways to make book covers with copper, brass or pewter as well as one book that looks like metal and mystifies the viewer on how it was done! We will use some simple patinas and other methods for coloring the real and faux metals. As time allows we will do some washes and simple background techniques on our inside pages.

Supplies ($15 in addition to class fee):

  • Metal for the cover
  • Bookboard
  • Text Paper for Pages
  • Extensive handouts in wire bound book form
  • Watercolors/Inks for inside pages
  • Needles and sewing thread
  • Acylics for faux metal provided by Golden

Students should bring:

  • Old scissors for cutting metal
  • Metal Ruler
  • Cutting Mat
  • Bone folder
  • Knife with sharp new blades
  • PVA Glue
  • Glue brush
  • 1" brush for painting acrylics (need not be a quality brush)
  • At least 2 water containers the size of a 1 lb. Cottage cheese container
