Journal Bag

No Real Sewing required, I promise! We can do appliqué and simple embroidery, but that's easy. Don't worry if you don't sew! We'll take one of those ubiquitous canvas bags--you know, the ones you can buy at any craft store--and alter it to make it into a suitable carrying bag for our art journals OR I'll provide muslin bags, cut and ready to stitch (very simply! I promise!). I'll provide the bags, but if you've got one that you love and want to alter, go ahead and bring it along. We'll paint and stamp and write and glue and work with iron-on transfers and beads and buttons and fibers and ribbons and, and, and--anything else you want to add to your bag. This workshop is a little different from the ones I do with altered clothing because the journal bags don't have to be washable. That means we can add things that wouldn't go through the washing machine--paper,bottle caps, keys, etc.

Supply List :  

--rubber stamp alphabet that will work on fabric--not too tiny, not too detailed--simple is best for this
--small embroidery hoop (to hold the fabric while you embroider or bead or whatever)
--permanent fabric glue for attaching things you don't want to sew or rivet onto the bag (I'll have some of this, but many people are very particular about the glues they use)  

And then bring:
--anything you think you may want to add to your bag, from fibers to buttons to medals to pins to jewelry to pictures--you name it!
--embroidery floss (and needle), beads (and needle and thread)  

I'll have some of most of these, but if you've got a particular color or size in mind, bring it along.  

We'll play with all of the above plus iron-on transfers, fibers, and anything else I think of or find between now and then--we'll have fun and experiment and play with all our supplies.
