An Icon is a symbol that is revered and worshipped, whether it be a pop idol or a saint. The icons you choose to worship can provide an incredible insight into your artistic life and be a source for your art expression. The artist will use photo transfer techniques, background processes and hand lettering to create a book on fabric to celebrate their icon. Icons can be famous, Marilyn Monroe, Miles Davis, John Lennon, or sacred, Mother Theresa, Thomas Aquinas or Joan of Arc. Choose quotes to enter into your book written by the icons themselves or from others. Lettering using simple calligraphy pens will be introduced and backgrounds using various acrylic media will provide the backdrop for our images. Photo transfer techniques will enable the images to be included on the fabric pages. Our work should matter and we should be passionately connected to it. I am convinced that moments of illumination and changes of heart come from the process of creativity. We will use this wonderful opportunity of gathering together to discuss our creative processes and how to continue this energy after Art Unraveled!
$10 supply fee is payable to instructor at class time for inks, metallic powders, threads, etc.
Supply List: Zig Calligraphy Markers-available at Target or Pilot Parallel Pens-they come in sizes 6 mm, 3.4 mm and 2.1 mm - available at paperinkarts.com or johnnealbooks.com-I will have a couple to try
FW Acrylic ink -a couple of colors Pearlescent Ink if you like shiny

Lightweight canvas for pages of your book-precut to your choice of size - two times the width of the book closed (or you can purchase a precut book from me -described below) You'll also need a cover of heavier fabric cut a bit larger than page spreads.
Various textures of fabric cut the same size to use as fly leaves or interpages-it will probably help to have a color theme in mind to choose fabrics and inks
Photos or images of your icon copied or printed onto iron transfer paper-June Tailor brand-available at Michaels and JoAnns-is my favorite-this comes in paper for color copiers or inkjet printers
Quotes by or about your icon or even your personal feelings to write out
Graph paper pad-8 1/2 X 11-available at office supply
Disappearing ink pen for fabric-available at Walmart and JoAnns-quilting section
Amulets, charms, trinkets relating to your icon-anything relatively flat can go into this book
Iron and press cloth if you live close-if staying at hotel-bring your room iron
