Collage – Unveiling the Mysteries
Date: Sunday, August 29, 2004
Time: 9am – 4:30pm
Instructor: Jacqueline Sullivan
Cost: $80

Do you love collage but find yourself confused over all of the possibilities? Are you at a loss when faced with an entire shelf of acrylic mediums? And then there are glues, varnishes and all kinds of surface possibilities!

Drawing from the instructor's knowledge – based on 30 years of mixed media work – this class will answer many of your questions!

We'll start by making a “sampler” of various acrylic mediums and gessos and noting their advantages and disadvantages. Then working on a pre-stretched canvas (can be unstretched if traveling by plane), we'll create a textured, color surface on which to mount images and ephemera, building a finished collage. The principles of design will be stressed as students work on their collages. And finally, we'll learn about glazing the final collage. Students will be given a small sample of glaze to take home and apply after collages are thoroughly dry.

Hand-outs for the class will be in a spiral bound book, providing a permanent reference for students.

There is a $15 supply fee payable to the instructor at class time for paints, hand-outs, mediums and other misc. supplies

Supply List :

Cheap acrylic brush – ¾” – 1” wide

2 water containers (about the size of a 1 lb. Cottage cheese container)

Various images for collage (choose a theme – have images in a variety of sizes including one large central image)
