Mabel Dean is a mixed media artist and bookmaker. In 1993 after a varied career that included teaching, writing, consulting, banking and marketing, she embarked on a new journey in the arts. At first she immersed herself in study and took classes from recognized experts in watercolor, bookmaking and calligraphy. She discovered artists’ books and has been involved in making them ever since.

Mabel started teaching at the University of Arizona Extended University in 1995 where she has offered a wide variety of classes in book arts, collage and journaling. She continues to teach art classes in Tucson for the Learning Curve and various art organizations. For the past four years she has been on the faculty at Art Unraveled.

Mabel has been active in various local arts organizations including the Contemporary Artists of Southern Arizona, the Southern Arizona Scribes, The Southern Arizona Watercolor Association, and The Tucson Handweavers and Spinners. She served as the founding president of PaperWorks which was established in January, 2001.
