Spontaneous Haiku Paintings
Sunday $130Katie Kendrick 9:00 - 4:30Student Level: All
Type of Workshop: Process and Project
This is a spontaneous and intuitive art-making workshop, designed to fuel curiosity and the experimental nature at the core of all original creation. Students will experiment with fluid acrylics on watercolor paper, diluting them with water and altering the wet paint with additional mediums. We will work on several small (5" x 7") paintings simultaneously, using brushes, eyedroppers, dripping, dribbling, spattering, pouring, puddling, and using monotypes to create and uncover fresh and original paintings that reveal hidden stories. Students will learn ways to 'draw out' the stories with a minimum of additional line and color to make the images "pop", using paint, graphite, colored pencil, and pen where needed. We will put words to each visual vignette using haiku, a short-metered form of Japanese verse. Students will choose 6-8 of their favorite paintings to mount onto mat board pages to assemble a simple fabric-bound booklet of personal visual haiku.
