Student Level: Beginner to Intermediate
Type of Workshop: Process and Project

Soy wax, an ecologically safe, food grade wax, unlike paraffin it can be washed safely and completely out of cloth in your home washing machine, no harsh chemicals are needed! We will use the soy wax to create batik like effects on cloth. Paint makes this medium fun and approachable. Wax is a resist, so we will explore and exploit its ability to trap previously applied colors, while building new and exciting layers of color.

Materials Fee of 5.00 payable to Instructor at class time includes use of:
Soy wax and melting pot
Metal tools
Rags
Iron and board

Supply List:
-Opaque acrylic paints are preferred, some paints are specifically formulated to give a soft hand on cloth, either type works well. My preferred brand is Lumiere And Neopaque but I encourage you to work within your own budget and needs.
-5 yards white 100% cotton cloth,
-2 sets of ½”, 1” and 2” foam and bristle brushes; the inexpensive type you can get in major hardware stores, 1 Set will be used with paint, the other will go in the wax pot

Optional:
I will provide a set to use during class but you might like to bring: Kitchen utensils make great stamps-metal transfers wax well

Get creative - if you think it can withstand 180 degree heat, lets try it!
