Learn to dye silk ribbons of different widths using the arashi shibori (in Japanese this loosely translates to mean “wind driven rain”) technique. This technique involves using a PVC pipe, string and dye, scrunching together and dyeing on the scrunched edges. Students will also dye torn strips of various kinds of silk, chiffon, charmeuse, dupioni, noil, and habotai. Students will leave class with two width sizes of silk ribbons.

Dyes
Buckets
Microwave
Disposable plastic aprons

Supply list:
Rubber gloves
15” pvc pipe 2” diameter (not abs pipe!)
Crochet cotton – size 10
Masking tape
Paper towels
2 - 1” foam brushes
Saran wrap
