This is a project class where we will make a collage out of our own and supplied collage images, building up layers of paint, paper and botanical objects to create a multi-layered image that will be sealed with a coat of encaustic medium. Special emphasis will be placed on working intuitively, over-all composition and placement of collage elements. Each student will take home a finished piece that will have incorporated many of the encaustic techniques demonstrated including transfers, incising and embedding and glazing with color.

Acrylic paints (cheap bottles of craft paint are fine) plus black and white
A selection of brushes, at least 3
Water container
Scissors
Gel medium
Pencil
Stabilo watercolor pencil in black
Collage images, inkjet just fine
