Animated Music Box Thursday $130
  Thomas Ashman 9:00 - 4:30

Student Level: All
Type of Workshop: Project

There is something inherently magical about a music box. Their sweet notes capture our imaginations, and return us to younger days as they accompany the hypnotic rotation of an object of beauty. In this project based class, students will completely construct this wooden music box, with recessed, stained glass windows, and then topped with an altered porcelain doll head that slowly turns in a circle as the music plays. Instruction is given in painting, drilling, cutting, and sanding a wooden box to make it look antique, and how to alter porcelain doll parts to a textured, rusty, metallic finish. Student will also learn glass cutting, and a nifty little collage technique to use with transparencies. Hardware applications, unusual torching techniques, bead wrapping, and basic wood joining are also covered.
Please note: Circus theme is totally optional. Please bring a doll head that you like and 1"x 2" transparencies for the little side window niches.
