Steel and Stone - WORKSHOP FILLED -

Richard Salley

In this class we will learn to use some the same bending, wrapping, joining and forging techniques to create jewelry from steel wire (it is often called “rebar tie”) and river stones. We will cover several ways to secure stones in your jewelry, including how to use a diamond drill for making holes in stone.

Each person will complete a necklace similar to the one shown in the example, plus several other samples will be available to inspire and challenge…so you may work on additional projects as time permits.

Supply fee of $3 payable to instructor at class time.

Level: Intermediate to Advanced

Tool List :
round nose and flat nose pliers
wire cutter
small hammer
bench block or anvil

Optional tools:
Dremel tool (or equivalent). I will have a couple for you to use, but if you have your own…bring it so we can maximize our time.
Incorporating rubber stamp images often adds to the overall design, so if you have a favorite image (and some permanent ink) bring that along with you too.
Feel free to bring along any other interesting found object you would like to incorporate.
