Have you ever created an amazing book project only to have it sit alone on a shelf? Well now you can create your book and hang it on the wall! From my book, Collage Discovery Workshop: Beyond the Unexpected, we will create a fabric book using unstretched and unprimed canvas.
You’ll learn how to customize the canvas with paints and tints. We’ll add collage papers and other elements to finish the cover. A variety of background techniques will be demonstrated. The finished book will be mounted to a 8x10 stretched canvas for easy display on a wall.
Supply List:
1 8x10 stretched canvas (or more if you want to create more than one piece)
Acrylic paints
Paint brushes
1 jar of Golden’s regular gel matte
Photo copies of figures or elements to use as your cover images
½ yard of unstretched unprimed canvas or fabric you would like to use – you can buy this at fabric stores or art supply stores. It can have a pattern if you like, but you might want to bring some plain canvas and I’ll show you how to stain it.
Needle and thread
Assorted colored papers
Buttons to use as the closure
Ribbon or embroidery thread
Markers and pens
Other embellishments (buttons, ribbons whatever you like!)
Bring a heat gun if you like
Paper towels
Water jar
