Learn to transform black and white copies of your photos, sketches, vintage images and ephemera into durable, multi-functional transfers that will add an ethereal feel to your art. We'll color these dreamy images with markers and colored pencils, as well as begin creating a padded, and elaborately layered tri-fold book focusing on pieces made in class. I’ll make the lightly padded tri-fold book base for you ahead of time. After learning the transfer technique, you can choose to use class time to produce elaborately layered transfers to add to your book or other artwork later, or spend more time creating pages and embellishing your book. I'll bring lots of my images for you to play with and learn on…. feel free to bring your own as well, for added fun and creativity.

$5 fee payable to instructor at class time includes: 5 pages of my images and drawings for you to use in your book; a cream colored, lightly padded and quilted, 7 X 16" book base; miscellaneous fabric, trims, fibers, foil, and papers for layering fun; sandwich paper to use as a non stick surface when creating the transfers; transfer sample; detailed intructional booklet.

Supply List:

**The following supplies are essential for making basic liquid clay transfers. If you are unable to find an item on the list, please let me know and I can help you find it, or pick it up for you and bring it to class.
** Iron. A full size iron is easier to use, but a craft iron will work if it is hot enough. Email with questions.
** 8 oz Translucent Liquid Sculpey. Can be found at Michael's Craft Supply and online at theclaystore.com.
** Faber Castell Pitt artist pens (B series brush tip) in coordinating colors. This is an Indian ink, waterproof pen and needs to have the brush tip. Include a facial tone, i.e.; #189 and a black brush tip along with 3 or 4 favorite colors. Substitutions can be water based markers, but they must dry waterproof and stay wet long enough to be blended.
** A few coordinating colored pencils. These need to be soft such as Berol Prismacolor. They are sold individually as well as in sets, so you don't have to buy more than a few to try. These will be used to color transfers as well as embellishing some of your fabric if desired.

The remainder of the supply list is for book construction and embellishment, as well as further experimentation using your own images, and to fuse together with transfers to achieve the layered look in the samples.

• Black and White copies of images. These can be up to about 4" X 5" or as small as desired including text. All copies should be black and white, copied in reverse and can be made at any copy center. Ink jet prints will not work. Laser copies will have varied results depending on your machine. Images with higher contrast will produce more detail than images with a lot of gray area (as in some of the Dover images. Lght copies will not work well; when copying at copy shops, click the darkness setting one or two clicks darker than the normal setting. Copy machines differ, so if they look very dark, you may have to adjust. Email if you have any questions.
• Fabric scraps to coordinate with your colors. You will need small, solid and print scraps to tear/cut and layer. Include sheer, cotton, and any blends that you like, as well as one piece that is approximately 7" X 25" for each extra page and pocket.
• Embellishments such as feathers, colored tape, laces, trims and buttons.
• Tacky glue such as Crafter's Pick The Ultimate to glue transfers in your book.
• Floss and needle if you choose to embroider decorative stitches in your book. I like the look of DMC size 5 Perle Cotton, and it tends to tangle less than regular embroidery floss.
• Thread and needle to stitch buttons on.
• Scissors.
• Thimble.
