Mabel Dean

Mabel Dean is a mixed media artist and bookmaker who lives in Tucson , Arizona . In 1993 after a varied career that included teaching, writing, consulting, banking and marketing, she embarked on a new journey in the arts. At first she immersed herself in study and took classes from recognized experts in watercolor, bookmaking and calligraphy. She discovered artists' books and has been involved in making them ever since.

Mabel started teaching at the University of Arizona Extended University in 1995 where she has offered a wide variety of classes in book arts, collage and journaling. She helped to found the FeMail Press, a group of six book artists who met at a workshop in 1994 and have subsequently published a unique editioned artist book each year since then.

She has been active in various local arts organizations including the Collage Association of Southern Arizona, the Southern Arizona Scribes, The Southern Arizona Watercolor Association, The Tucson Handweavers and Spinners and served as the founding president of PaperWorks which was established in January, 2001.
