This class will be an intensive book painting day, so prepare yourself to go home totally inspired to keep working late into the night. You will learn collage layout and mixed media techniques that Anne Grgich developed to create her “luscious passionate painterly books”. In one day gather many of the tricks that Anne Grgich
uses to achieve a highly detailed ancient look and feel. This is a project that you will be able to take home completed. (10 page book)

This year Anne has simplified her process with the collaborative assistance of Lauren Atkinson, Whidby Island professional teacher. Along with self-taught outsider artist Anne Grgich, they offer an exciting creative experience. Anne demonstrates her painterly touch, and shares her collage and painting process i.e. using freeze dried coffee over text, beeswax and various painting methods to create that aged look or Anne’s signature “looking glass effect” with glues and tar gel. Lauren
and Anne both offer individual attention - this class will be lively and productive.

Learn how to lay out collage ephemera and learn the mixed media tricks and secrets of the “Singular” painting talent of Anne Grgich, through demonstrations and with lots of individual assistance the students will have their art passion awakened by the constant creative energy of the class, they will learn how to paint with coffee,
wax, acrylics, (non toxic, non odiferous) acrylic-tar and tar-gel.and get the various painting surfaces of Anne Grgich’s deeply painted books.

Supply List:
Bring an old book about 10 pages maximum, about 8 x 10”enough collage to cover the pages you will paint in, you can glue every few pages together-gesso not necessary, but if you select children’s heavy board books, you must sand the pages first.
PVA or Glues that dry clear
Yes Paste/Stik Flat Glue
a small, medium and fat brush
5 small tubes of paints
a water cup
paper napkins
good pair of light weight scissors
Sharpie or a permanent marker

Supplies Provided by Teacher: Beeswax and iron, acrylic non-toxic asphaltum tar, gold leaf, tar gel, heat guns, freeze dried instant coffee, golden tar gel, kids school glue.
