Alex Shur is an artist and writer. She holds a BFA in Painting from the San Francisco Art Institute and studied toward her MFA while working at CalArts. She discontinued her studies to teach in Prague—fresh in the wake of the Velvet Revolution—a decision she has never regretted.
Since then, she has lived, worked, traveled, and taught in magical places that have inspired her paintings, and shaped her artistic vision. She believes that stepping outside of one’s comfort zone feeds the creative spirit so she likes to uproot and start over from time to time.
She is currently planted in the loamy soil, ten blocks from the Mississippi River, in Minneapolis. She lives with her family of two and four legged people. And, she cloud gazes every chance she gets.
Alex has work in private and corporate collections around the world.
