Beyond the Unexpected: Creating a 3D Collage $125

Claudine Hellmuth

Inspired my book, Collage Discovery Workshop: Beyond the Unexpected, we’ll delve into creative painterly techniques using household materials. After we’ve gotten our hands dirty and backgrounds worked out, we’ll put together a 3-d cigar-box collage, using the depth of the cigar box format to bring prominent elements to the foreground.

I’ll show you how to use your own photos in your collages – photos of your family, friends and even pets. I’ll also show you how to become more comfortable with using your own drawing and line work in your collages along with exercises to practice and tips you can use right away.

Supply List:

A few black & white photocopied images of heads. You could use your own image, family members, pets or someone you don't know. It's up to you!
11" x 14" sheet of plexiglass
Cigar box, the cheap balsa wood kind with paper covering. You can bring 2 or more if you like!
Acrylic paints, just a couple colors that you like. I like the GOLDEN fluid acrylics for these techniques.
Glue. I like to use GOLDEN's regular gel matte for gluing
fine-tip black pen (sharpie)
paint brushes, scissors & water jar
collage items and papers you might like to use: colored
papers, embellishments, game pieces, doll house window etc
a small jar of gesso
sandpaper
