Beaded Bangles - WORKSHOP FILLED -

This is a project workshop where students will learn how to measure, cut and shape wire safely, hammer it, polish it, and form it to make a beaded bangle with wire-cage wrapped beads, coiled wire wraps, and a handmade clasp. Time permitting, students will have the option of artificially aging their jewelry in a liver-of-sulfur solution.

Supply List:

Measuring tape
Small steel bench block
Notebook & pencil or pen
Plastic or rawhide hammer
Chasing hammer with a convex head
Flush cutters suitable for cutting up to 14-gauge wire
Jewelry pliers: round-nose, extra-long round-nose, chain-nose, and flat-nose
Beads: At least one large focal bead plus a few color coordinating beads, all with holes large enough to accommodate 14-gauge wire. Bead caps and silver spacer beads are optional; make sure the holes will accommodate a 14-gauge wire. (Also make sure the holes go all the way through your beads.)
Wire: Two feet of 14-gauge, four feet of 18-gauge, four feet of 20-gauge, and three feet of 22-gauge ROUND wire in sterling silver. In addition, you may want about two feet of 24-gauge twisted round sterling silver wire for additional wrapping purposes; I suggest bringing more than these minimal wire requirements to class for practice. Bring some copper wire to practice with and reserve your expensive silver wire for final projects. NOTE: Order dead-soft wire, as it’s the most malleable.
