The earth is full of minerals. Some of these minerals have health benefits, while others are desired for their rarity and beauty. Drusys are collected for their beauty. Sometimes referred to as druzy, druze, druse or drusie, these glittering rocks are sought-after by jewelry makers and rock hounds.

A drusy is sets of tiny crystals of minerals that form on the surface of another stone. There are many types of drusy, because there are many types of minerals. Each type of drusy has particular characteristics, such as crystal size, luster and color. Quartz is one of the most common drusy types because of the prevalence of silica throughout the world. No matter what mineral forms the drusy, the overall appearance usually resembles that of sugar. The tiny crystals are considered beautiful because, like large gemstones, they glitter and catch rays of light. Druzys have infatuated and tickled my fancy for quite some time…now I know why. The sugary crystals catch my eye almost as fast as vintage rhinestones!

This class will be about cutting or sawing layers of metal into the perfect shape to hold your chosen druzy, then delicately embedding it into silver bearing solder. I’ll also share some unique ways to add a little extra touch to your wire wraps, as well a new signature hook & eye closure.

The outcome, I believe, will give birth to a rustic yet elegant necklace. Adding a sprinkle of beautiful gemstone points, well that will just add the perfect ending to a one of a kind piece of art, and necklace I call…Rustique Romance.

Druzy Cabochon, FLAT Backed (approx.1-1/2”x1”, a bit more or less, one that is not more than 6 oz. works best)
Nickel Silver, Jewelers Bronze, Brass or Copper Sheet Metal, 24 gauge, at least 2 different 4”x4” pieces
Sterling Silver, Jewelers Bronze, Brass, or Copper Wire, 24, 22, 20 gauges for wire wrapping - PLEASE patina wire before class!)
Jewelers Bronze, Brass or Copper Wire, approx. 8” of 12 gauge
OR Sterling Silver Dead Soft Wire, 8” of 14-16 gauge
