Build a frame from scratch! Imagine wandering through the museums in Paris, and seeing divine bejeweled pendants, framing an elegant likeness of their royal family. Inspiration grabbed me when I saw something similar. Divine only begins to describe this project. You will create your very own French inspired pendant frame to wear and treasure forever! Make it look as regal as you like, and bring a mother lode of your favorite bling and stampings. We will completely drench the front of your little darling in hot solder, embedding stampings and rhinestone chain. Then cold connect a variety of your favorite found items that can’t tolerate heat. I’ll demonstrate the skill in stamping a word onto metal if you would like to give your pendant some more character, then solder it on. Bring a little photo of someone special to slip inside a 1” peek hole. And finally, wire the pendant with chain and found objects, making it into a majestic necklace to enjoy, fit for royalty.

In this workshop, you will learn the following wonderful skills:
In using a micro butane torch, how to flood solder
The method of joining a back to the front creating a frame
Techniques to attach metal stampings to hot solder
My tricks on attaching rhinestone chain with a micro torch
How to cut and shape sheet metal
Attaching mini hardware
The technique of drilling
Learn to work with mica
Learn some basics of wiring
A great way to make a hand made hook clasp

Materials Fee: $20 payable to Instructor at class time includes these materials:
All sheet metal
20ga copper wire
Spacers
Polishing pad
Mini hardware
Some rhinestone chain
Mica
All chemicals
Handouts and more
plus the use of the following supplies and tools:
disc cutter set, drills and drill bits, additional mini hardware, various metal and jewelry making tools, heat safe surfaces, magnesium bricks, flux brushes, flux, quench cups, flux cups, patina, extra butane fuel, files, metal letter stamps, sheet metal, sand papers, scrubbies, paint brushes, tooth brushes, soap, paper towels, mini anvil and adhesives, duct tape.

Students should bring:
A micro butane torch (Micro Torch is great for beginners)
A small roll of solid core unleaded heavy hardware store solder
A pair of cheap long nose pliers (Harbor Freight)
Butane fuel* (I will have extra if you are flying)
Various items to adorn the frame front (everything from a tiny pocket watch to all kinds of stampings, vintage rhinestone chain or bling, medals, buttons, almost anything)
A small photo to fit a one inch size opening
Jewelry tools such as needle nose pliers, small flat nose pliers, round nose pliers
Flush wire cutters
Rawhide or plastic hammer
A steel block
7” fine grit metal file (half round if you have one)
Metal shears (I have a few extras)
Fine tip permanent marker
Scissors
Paper
Pencil
Ruler
Small ballpeen hammer
For the necklace, bring chain of your choice
A couple of 16ga jump rings not too tiny
20-ga wire of your choice to wire necklace together
Gems/pearls/crystals to fit the 20-ga wire
Found objects to wire on, like vintage tags, old mop buttons, key, etc.

* Do not fly with butane fuel, either in the can or in your torch. I will have a few extra torches, and butane fuel available.
