Basket Weave Earrings

Using sterling silver wire and some sparkly beads, you will create some uniquely intriguing earrings. Learn to form the wire base in any shape you wish, how to incorporate focal beads into your wire base, how to add wire to weave & coil, & how to embellish & texture your design with beads. Forming self made ear wires, and adding bead links or drops if you desire, will complete your lovely earrings. Instructions and supplies for antiquing your finished project will be provided in class.

Optional kit fee of $27 payable to Instructor at class time includes 1 ½ feet of 18gauge “Dead Soft” sterling silver wire, 1 ½ feet of 20 gauge “Half Hard” sterling silver wire, 8 feet of 24 gauge “Dead Soft” sterling silver wire, a small assortment of tiny beads: seed beads, pearls, crystals, stone chips, faceted glass & shapes, etc. , pair of beads to add a link or drop to your earrings, pair of lever back ear wires, all students must provide their own tools.

Supplies provided by the teacher include: mandrels for forming, antiquing supplies, use of optional tools in class, & beading pads.

Students not purchasing optional kit must bring the following items to the workshop :

  • 1 ½ feet of 18gauge “Dead Soft” sterling silver or copper wire
  • 1 ½ feet of 20gauge “Half Hard” sterling silver or copper wire
  • 8 feet of 24 gauge “Dead Soft” sterling silver or copper wire
  • A small assortment of tiny beads; seed beads, pearls, crystals, stone chips, faceted glass & shapes, etc
  • Optional pair of larger beads to incorporate in your wire base (should have holes big enough for 18gauge wire)
  • Optional pair of beads to add a link or drop to your earrings
  • Optional pair of lever back ear wires (you will learn to form fish hook ear wires in class)

Tool List (all students must bring):

  • Round nose pliers
  • Chain nose pliers
  • Flush wire cutters
  • Ruler

Optional Tools – some will be provided to use in class, but bring if you have them:

  • Flat nose pliers or second pair of chain nose pliers
  • Jeweler’s files
  • Chasing hammer & bench block
