Neptune’s Necklace
Thursday $135 Melissa Manley 9:00 - 4:30 Student Level: Beginner
Type of Workshop: Process and Project
Dive deep and come up with this treasure! Learn to make these little window links out of washers. If you have no metalworking experience this is a great place to start! If you have metals experience, then add a new trick to your repertoire. We’ll texture, drill, file, patina and rivet our way to jewelry bliss. You won’t be able to stop!
Kit Fee of $4 payable to Instructor at class time includes: patinas and copper washers, tubing and sized drill bits
Instructor will provide: washers, drilling tools, bits, small tubing, patina and other metals tools to use
Supply List:
Mica sheets/tiles
Small images to frame with washers (I usually pre-coat my images with a clear coat of something like a matte medium to make them more durable.)
Scissors
Various jewelry pliers- I would suggest: round nose, chain nose, cutters, and maybe a flat jawed pair
Circle template for marking mica
Small ball peen hammer (4oz)
Black wet/dry sandpaper for metal - an assorted pack is good. I use 320, 400, 600 but you may only want the finer grits for this project. You won’t need a lot. I tuse small 4-6” squares of it.
A small steel bench block or small anvil to hammer onto
Chain of your choice (not too fine, you’ll give yourself a headache trying to work with superfine chain!)
Beads to embellish links
Wire to connect beads
Magnifying/reading glasses, if you need them
Ott Light and extension cord if you need them (Hotel lighting is not designed for jewelry workshops)
