Type of Workshop: Process oriented; students should be able to take home some finished beads
Learn to make yummy, colorful enameled copper beads that look good enough to eat! We will discuss metals properties and learn to dome discs we’ve cut. I will also teach you to torch fire powdered glass enamel, no kiln required! Then we’ll use cold connections to make our pretty domes into beads that you can wear as focal pieces.
We will learn to saw, cut discs, dome metal, file, sand and properly clean the metal to then torch fire enamel onto the domes, and then we’ll cold connect them into beads.
Kit fee of $5 payable to Instructor at class time for enamels and klyrfire and sprayers
Instructor will supply: metal working tools, enamels, torch, heat resistant surface
Supply List:
22ga sheet copper-3”X6” sheet will probably give you 6 beads. I would suggest larger, but if space/weight is an issue. I’ll leave it up to youTubing- small, close to 1/8” outer diameter; I have a punch with various sizes, so don’t stress out about size, just as long as you can put cord or wire through it. This will be the hole of your bead. You will probably need a few inches, 6” + Some stores (ex; Ace Hardware) carry a K&S display with packages of small copper tubing some packs have three tubes in them.
A small hammer- 4oz hammer for stamping. Either a chasing hammer, if you have one or small ball peen, or even and old small carpenters hammer is fine.
A center punch
A small bench block
Eye protection
Close up glasses if you need them
A jeweler’s handsaw and 2/0 saw blades
