Clear Applications - Paper Glazing Part 1

Using Susan Lenart Kazmer’s crystal clear ICE resin, students will explore resin application to various types of paper to create amazing, translucent pages for use in jewelry, journals and other mixed media projects. Techniques covered will include proper mixing and use of resin for paper glazing, and use of various mediums to color and alter finished resin papers. A variety of finished jewelry projects, created with glazed papers, will be shown and discussed in class.

This class is part 1 of two classes designed to inspire students in the application of these extraordinary papers to jewelry work. Students are encouraged to take part 2: “Clear Applications for Jewelry.” These classes are taught independently of each other but students will benefit most by taking them both. Students will finish a variety of resin glazed papers.

 Resin
Resin cups
Resin sticks
Gloves
Sponges/sponge brushes
Some papers for glazing
Acrylic spray sealer
Heat tool
Steel wool
Sand paper
Antique medium or acrylic paint
Paper towels

Supply list:
Coloring agents for resin paper: I like dye ink pads the best but you could also bring color crayons, felt pens, chalk pastels, rub on paints, oil pastels, Shiva paintsiks. Please note that dye ink pads will suffice for coloring and I will provide some of the other things. Anita’s Fragile Crackle and antiquing medium or brown acrylic paint are optional but good to bring.

Papers for glazing: vintage papers work best but you may also bring tissue paper, napkins, newspaper, etc.
