A patron saint traditionally has been regarded as the "heavenly advocate of a nation, place, craft, activity, clan, family or person". In this class students will create their own tiny patron saints on a 4.75 x 3.25 inch Gothic arch-shaped substrate that gives it a Medieval look. Students will learn a variety of techniques including image transfers on clay, stamping and embedding into clay, using molds, gold leaf, painting and collage techniques. Students will leave class with a pair of patron saints inscribed with positive affirmations that are sure to bring good luck!

Kit/Materials Fee (payable to instructor at class time):

  • $10
  • Two substrates
  • One bezel and glass cabochon
  • Collage images
  • Gold leaf
  • Acrylic paint and related supplies
  • Gel medium
  • Rub n Buff
  • Mica powders
  • Napkins for collage

Student should bring:

  • 3 small (2 oz) packages of either Premo or Sculpey III white polymer clay for image transfers and one (2oz) package of any color of your choosing. Please make sure the clay is somewhat soft before buying (see if you can dent it) and condition it prior to class by kneading it until softened, rolling it into balls and placing in a baggie to store.
  • Rolling pin or 1.5 inch diameter PVC pipe works too, about 10-12 inches long
  • A pencil with an eraser
  • Small scissors
  • Paintbrushes to include a half-inch flat brush and a detail brush
  • Small bottle of Weldbond glue (Michaels or Ace Hardware)
  • Doo-Dads, jewelry bits to embed in the clay, glass rhinestones, rhinestone chain, ball chain, metal findings, bead caps, wings, crowns, buttons, beads, charms, pearls, tiny mirrors (see pics for ideas). Stay away from plastic/ adhesive rhinestones!
