Prerequisite: Basic experience with encaustic very helpful but not mandatory.

Using students' and instructor's imagery printed on sumi paper, habotai silk, Japanese gampi tissue, and commercial napkins, and mindful of historical, compositional and color considerations, we will embed these images into wooden panel bases which have received an "overpour" of encaustic medium. Students will learn the overpour technique as well as the adherence and "setting" techniques necessary to form a strong bond between the encaustic and the printed materials.

Kit/Materials Fee (payable to instructor at class time):

• $50.00 includes:
• encaustic medium
• natural bristle brushes
• wooden panels
• all images printed on sumi paper, habotai silk, Japanese gampi tissue, and commercial napkins

Instructor Provided (for use in-class, and to share):

• Teacher will provide all equipment and most tools (see supply list).
• Additionally, the teacher will provide students with a valuable self-generated 6-page Encaustic Resources Guide.

Student should bring:

• Students may send the instructor 1 or 2 of their own images (photographs or photographed drawings). Line imagery or high contrast imagery, and images without large fields of the same color, work best. Email as jpg's to my address below, as attachments not in the body of the email, no later than 2 weeks before the workshop.
• Please bring apron or smock, notepaper and pen, scissors, exacto knife with sharp blade(s), plastic or wooden burnisher or metal tablespoon.
• Please wear closed shoes.
