This is a 9 hour workshop.

From the “Daring young Man” on the flying trapeze to the traveling menageries of wild animals, and graceful trick riders… there is something magical and enchanting about a circus. So come join me and create your own little traveling circus. Imagine trims of lace, tattered seams, ruffled edges and vintage posters to adorn the outside your circus tent.

We will start by preparing our fabric with plaster, to give it stability as well as a shabby, vintage look and feel. Then we will cut out, sew and embellish our little circus tent with images and trims. I like a tattered look for my circus tent, so I have used lots of left over scraps and trims to embellish it. Jointed paper animals from vintage Raphael Tuck images will bring the menagerie to life!

As a finishing touch your tent will stand on it’s own wheeled platform - ready for the Big Time. The finished tent can be disassembled and laid flat for travel. The Base is 12x 12. And the tent is about 12x12x5.

Student should bring:
Basic tools: scissors, old and new, needles thread, etc.
2 Yards cotton fabric, I used a soft polka dot for the front and back of my tent and a fabric with letters for the sides. It is good to have a couple different designs. Choose fabrics you think go with your style and theme.
Good Fabric Glue
Small tube of E-6000
12”x12”x ¼ or 1/8” birchwood -I usually find mine at Michaels
Small container of Clear Tar Gel (Golden’s is good)
36” x ¼” dowel..you may pre-cut this into 13 inch pieces for packing
Two 12” x ¼ inch dowels for tent posts
Fabrics, laces and ribbons for trims
Spool of 20 Gauge annealed wire here is some on Amazon so you can see what I used
A stencil you might like to use for the floor of your tent
My base is painted pink with a burnt umber glaze. I will bring pink paint, but
If that is not your color feel free to bring another color. And a second color to contrast with your base color.

If someone has an old sewing machine we could share - we will be sewing fabric prepared with plaster, so not your good machine.
