This is a 9 hour workshop.
Gothic Triptychs is a workshop where students will create a Medieval-looking triptych. The triptych is a three-panel substrate that has a center panel and two hinged side panels. Historically, the triptych was a popular format throughout the Middle Ages and many altarpieces were in triptych form because they were well suited to illustrate bible stories. However, in this class, students will be creating their own stories on their triptychs using polymer clay. A variety of mixed media techniques in polymer clay will be covered that essentially alters the surface of the clay totally transforming it. We will be stamping into clay and using gold leaf. Not only will students create a wonderful centerpiece by layering and embedding into clay, they will also be guided through very cool techniques to transform the side panels and the back of the triptych using mastic, foam stamps and stencils. Students will leave class with their own incredible, altarpiece.

6 small (2 ounce) packages of Premo or SculpeyIII polymer clay- buy 3 of the same color, 1 package of white or tan for transfers, the other two of your choosing. The color of the clay really doesn’t matter all that much as we will be altering it. Make sure the clay is somewhat soft before buying, if it is rock hard, don’t buy it! Please condition clay prior to class by kneading it until soft and then placing in a baggie.
Rolling pin or large diameter-1.5” pvc pipe works too about 10-12 inches long
Assorted paintbrushes to include a fine detail brush and a one-inch brush
Pencil with an eraser
A small pair of scissors
A few Doo-dads-like metal charms, beads, jewelry parts, wings, crowns, Milagros, buttons, crystals, glass rhinestone chain, ball chain, small metal frames to embed into the clay and any other personal items to make your triptych your own. (no acrylic or self-adhesive doodads!)Optional:
