Type of Workshop: Process with Projects
Prerequisite: Students should be comfortable with beginning jewelry making skills

Although offered individually on the schedule, Forge On and Form It comprise a 2 day workshop that focuses on the process of taking your metalsmithing skills to the next level. "Never be limited to flat metal again.!" These skills will allow you to turn your ideas into 3-d reality ( without a hydraulic press) using only hammers, anvil and wood forms. Metal is very malleable when you know how and have a few simple tools. Make sheet dome, cup and spiral. Learn what Synclastic and Anticlastic forming is all about. You may choose to take either of the workshops as an individual experience; however it's recommended that you consider spending both days to maximize your metalsmithing experience. In appreciation for attending BOTH Form It And Forge On, you will receive a nylon forming hammer to use in class and to keep.

FORGE ON:

The art of stretching and compressing metal rod or wire . Using copper, brass or sterling heavy gauge wire you will make:
A forged 6 link bracelet with clasp,
Create a simple forged neck collar,
And learn simple forged wire earring elements

Materials fee: $25 payable to Instructors at class time includes:
Copper & brass wire in all gauges needed to make the projects
Jump rings
Drill bits and use of torches, fuel, hammers, anvils and hand tools to share. (Students may choose to make the projects in sterling silver if they prefer and supply their own sterling silver.) Contact instructor for details.

Supplies Provided by Instructor for use in class:
cross peen hammers
torches for annealing
fuel
pickle
bracelet mandrel
grinder/ buffer
scratch brush
jumprings
mounted vises, anvils, stumps, hammers & mallets and a flex shaft to share

Students should bring (or feel free to contact Instructor for suggestions for tools & vise set-up or if you would like for Instructor to supply needed tools for purchase):
Polished planishing hammer, flat on one side, slight dome on other. This is a basic tool that you will use consistently in your jewelry making. I suggest good quality, rather than student grade for this tool. Something like this, or this, or this.
Smooth bench block or polished anvil no smaller than 3" wide
Flat files
Sanding sticks
Jewelers saw & blades would be helpful
Bench pin and basic hand tools
Chain nose pliers
Basic hand tools
Drill bits and Dremel or flex shaft for drilling if you don't want to wait to share
Hole punch pliers may be useful as well
Personal light and long extension cord if not battery operated
Safety glasses
