Fabric Winged Angel Book 9:00 - 4:30 Aug. 4th continuing 6:30 - 9:30 Aug. 5th Kate Thompson $215
Student Level: All
Type of Workshop: Project
Prerequisite: None
This is a 9-hour workshop.
In this class I will be teaching you how to make a fabric 4 signature book (6" x 8") with a wood based front and back cover. I will instruct how to make coptic binding technique to attach the front and back cover and all of the signatures. In addition to the Coptic stitch done in waxed linen, I also add a decorative wire design attached to the front and back cover. I also demonstrate a brand new technique on how to make wire wings to attach to a paperclay figure (supplied by me) to attach to your cover. I demonstrate how to make gesso and plaster covered fabric for the pages and how to make lace, fabric, plaster borders to trim your pages.
In the six hour portion of the class, I will demonstrate how to do the Coptic stitch for the book binding as well as the wire attachment and wings. We will construct our covers using the wings and Frozen Charlotte elements. We will work on prepping our pages with gesso and plaster and start working on our pages. The overnight drying time will be beneficial to completing the project.
The following day (3 hours) we will continue to construct the book and continue working on our pages using mixed media painting and collaging techniques. We will continue working on our pages with paint, stamps, applying plaster with stencils to create beautiful textures.
Prepping your pages before class is recommended. I will give you instructions via email on what prepping is needed. View my video here, the password is gessofabricMaterials Fee: $25. Payable to Instructor at the beginning of class includes:
