Casting is always a magical process, turning common bits of solder into aged, beautiful pendants, or earring creations. Create one-of-a-kind cast pieces by using everyday, ordinary materials! I will demonstrate casting with hardware store solder. These castings have the look and feel of aged silver treasures, as though they could have been uncovered from an ancient dig. You will make your own pendants, charms and earrings from scratch. The excitement continues as you work your castings into a necklace. Make it long or short, your choice! Dangle with beads, gems, pearls or bling, making it as rustic as you like. Cast a pair of earrings to coordinate with your rustic looking, one of a kind necklace. Not knowing how each casting will turn out keeps you hooked. Come learn how to create your own “ancient” pieces.

Here are a few of the wonderful skills you will learn:
Using a micro butane torch, how to fill and fire it, casting with solder using a micro torch, learn some basics of wiring, and dangling charms, how to incorporate cord and finish it off for a necklace, how to make a hand made clasp, how to make hand made ear wires

Heat bricks
Various workshop chemicals

Instructor will provide for use in workshop:

Patina
Fire safe bricks
Heat safe surface
Soldering chemicals
Flux cups, flux brushes
Soap
Wet/dry sand paper
Polishing pads
Solder pliers
Quench bowls
Metal files
Paper towels
A variety of vintage and new stampings to cast. (Hope to have some new ones from my trip to France.)

Student should bring:
Butane torch (if flying, pick up an inexpensive one from Harbor Freight) and butane fuel, and
Cheap long needle nose pliers (Harbor Freight ones are perfect),
A pound roll of lead free solid core hardware store solder,
Four small packets of white or off white Sculpey III polymer clay (or one extra large one),
Small steel block (and rag for underneath)
Hammer
Jewelry tools like flush wire cutters, needle nose pliers, round nose pliers
Opti-visor magnifiers (optional)
Ott light & extension cord (optional)
Bring some fun things to cast from, like old hardware or keys, and I’ll be bringing some amazing hardware I picked out in France, which will make beautiful castings.
* Do not fly with butane fuel in the can or in a torch. I will have a few extra torches butane fuel available.
