Sheryl Johnson was always surrounded by art growing up. By the time she was in 4th grade her father had already taught her to paint with oils and had won “Best in Show” at her first art show. At every opportunity she tried new mediums, from drawing, silversmithing, weaving, stained glass, and ceramics to photography. It wasn’t until she discovered collage and assemblage that she found her true passion. With a love of old paper, forgotten photographs and a need to tell a story, her path took on a new direction. She began teaching throughout Arizona sharing her techniques of layering paper as well as found objects, chalking with color pencil work, and painting. She worked with both Tsukineko and Lucky Squirrel creating samples for their products and ads. Her work was displayed in most major stamping magazines. In 2012, her and her partner Judi Green bought Lipstick Ranch and have been working to build their company one piece at a time. With this new opportunity, came the chance to translate her love of paper collage into beautiful textures of fabrics, lace, trims and of course, those forgotten photos, with just a little “sass” thrown in for good measure.
