Metals are some of the most enduring and beautiful elements available to mixed media artists. They add structure, texture, color, and no small amount of pure gravitas to almost any type of art project. In this course, students will receive an overview of several different types of metal and ways to include them in their art. Students will learn many ways to alter the surface of metals for their use. While making a beautiful wall hanging, students embark on an exploration of several processes including torching, chemical and natural patina and rust, painting, stamping, engraving, texturing, as well as grinding, cutting, bending, drilling, punching, and attaching of copper, brass, tin and more! Materials fee of $20 payable to Instructor at class time includes:
- wood base
- hardware
- brads
- patinas
- paints
- inks
- various metals
- wire
- foils
- found objects, and much more!
Students must bring the following tools and supplies to class:
- Snips or shears
- needle nose pliers
- screwdrivers
- small hammer
- any favorite stamps
- paintbrushes
- safety glasses
