Repoussé Hearts
Sunday 9 - 4:30 $145 Diane Cook
Student Level: Beginner - Intermediate
Type of Workshop: Project
Prerequisite: None
Repoussé, a method of decorating metals in which parts of the design are raised in relief from the back or the inside of the article by means of hammers and punches. The name repoussé is derived from the French word pousser, “to push forward.” This ancient technique, which has been used extensively throughout the history of metalworking, achieved widespread popularity in Europe during the 16th, 17th, and 18th centuries.
Materials Fee of $20 payable to Instructor at class time includes the following materials and use of tools:
If you have been waiting to try this technique, wait no more. The time is now…as I will share “my style” of designing repoussé hearts, which will be the main focus in this class. And, how about adding another great technique to the mix…torch fired enameling! Yes, you’ll have the option to add a bit of enamel work, including the technique of sgraffito, to your design, which makes for many beautiful and unique combinations.
Forging and annealing heavy gauge wire will also be covered and is an option to use in class, if you desire a choker. But, if that’s not your style, bring along a bit of extra goodies to complete a necklace. Whatever you choose to design, it’s sure to delight. Come join me for the day, as we work some metal magic.
