Plaster and Wax, Oh My! Sunday 9 - 4:30 $145 Sandra Duran Wilson
Student Level: All
Type of Workshop: Process and Project
Prerequisite: None
This is what mixed media is all about, bringing different painting surfaces together and throwing in lots of layers. You all know that I love my faux encaustic, but I do love pure wax and plaster too. It's like bringing together peanut butter and chocolate, who can resist. We will begin with Venetian plaster on panel. We will embed, unearth, texture, layer color and scribe and sgrafitto into the wet plaster. Don't worry about those fancy words, they just mean to draw and doodle. How fun is that. I love to scrape back into the plaster and when dry rub paint into the recesses. We will try some crackles on for size and then add a waterslide transfer on top. When everything is done we will top it all off with wax. This gives the plaster a beautiful finish. I will show you mounting, hanging and framing tricks too. But wait, I can't resist, I will also show you an alternative ending. You will learn how to get the same look without the wax. You will love this combo of yummy surfaces as much as I do.
