Fun, Affordable and Classy: Composite Laminate Earrings

Practicing the basic principles of good design, you will create classy earrings/ pendants that belie their humble materials, by layering a few elements contrasting in shape color and/or texture.
Create unique, lightweight earrings, (pendant or pin) using a commercial composite resin laminate, silver & copper wire, brass sheet and some beads or found objects, stressing good simple designs. More embellishment is not always better and basic elements of good design will be presented. Working quickly, student should be able to take home at least 2 pair of earrings or earrings & pendant or pin at end of this 3 hour workshop.. *You can choose to make smaller earrings if you prefer.
Materials fee of $15 payable to Instructor at class time includes:- 1 foot each: 20 gauge sterling, brass & copper wire, for ear wires & embellishments
- 3" 16g sterling wire
- textured sheet aluminum
- brass & copper commercial findings
- assorted beads & headpins
and for use in class:- composite resin laminate
- jewelers saws & blades
- silver solder
- torches & fuel
- adhesive
- drill & bits
- hammers
- patina
- scratch brush
- pickle, copper tongs
- green scratch cloth
- metal wires, sheets & found objects to share
Students should bring:- bench block
- leather mallet
metal shears- small side cutters
round nose pliers- chain nose pliers
- flat nose pliers
- #2/0 saw blade
- #60 drill bit
- bench pin and clamp
- fine sand paper, 1 sheet ( or sanding cloths/ sponges)
- optivisor or magnifying glasses
- favorite metal and/ or glass or gemstone beads in 3-6mm in diameter
We will have some to share of everything needed for those who want to join the fun without the required tools.
Optional if you don't want to wait to share:- your own saw frame & hand tools
- triangular needle file
- Sterling ball head pins if you wish to use them ( nice)
- personal light if needed
