Encaustic Collage + Origami

    Using beautiful origami papers, ephemera and pigmented beeswax, we will create sculptural encaustic (beeswax + damar resin) paintings. After folding basic origami forms such a boats, flowers and pinwheels, we will infuse the origami with beeswax in a bath of encaustic medium. Next will be the construction of encaustic collage using layers of colorful beeswax and beeswax infused papers. The sculptural origami elements will then be fused to the wax collages to complete the 3D paintings.

Materials fee of $20 payable to Instructor at class time includes unlimited classroom use of:
  • Encaustic paint
  • Encaustic medium
  • Oil bars (R&F Paints)
  • Pan pastels
  • Water soluble crayons
  • Origami papers (small variety)
  • Ephemera
  • Saral Transfer Paper
  • Transfer Foil
    as well as the use of Instructor's:
  • Griddles & electric skillets to heat wax
  • Containers
  • Brushes
  • Heat Guns
  • Paper Cutters
  • Extension Cords
  • Incising/scraping tools

    Students should bring:
  • Personal selection of origami papers (no larger than 6” square) and ephemera
  • Scissors
  • Disposable gloves
  • Old spoon
  • 4-6 Ampersand Encausticbords and/or plywood panels, flat or cradled, no larger than 8 "x10”
